What is UL 3741?
NEC 690.12 background
2020 NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown of PV Systems on Buildings requires that all PV arrays installed on buildings shall include rapid shutdown functions to reduce shock hazard for Fire Fighters in accordance with 690.12 (For further information regarding NEC 690.12, refer to manufacturer’s website)

The solution
Fronius Symo Advanced
The Fronius Symo Advanced string inverter is UL 3741 certified for use with listed flat roof systems when the inverter is installed within the 1 ft array boundary. This certification eliminates the need for module level rapid shutdown devices. When modules are properly mounted with either of these UL 3741 approved PV Hazard Control commercial installation systems, the Fronius Symo Advanced is NEC 690.12 compliant.
All mounting systems are UL 3741 certified according to 2023 NEC 690.12 Controlling Conductors within the array boundary (Also compliant with the 2017 and 2020 versions of the NEC).

UNIRAC®
UNIRAC® Flat Roof Systems (RM10 EVO, RM10 LEGACY, RMDT, RM5, ECOFOOT 2+, ECOFOOT 5D, GRIDFLEX 5) are UL 3741 Listed systems that comply with NEC 690.12 when installed by qualified persons per the installation procedures outlined in the UNIRAC® UL 3741 Installation Guide.

Fronius rooftop solution
It is required by Fronius USA, in accordance with our installation manual, that the Fronius Shade Cover be used when the Fronius Symo Advanced is installed in direct sunlight.
